"Ukraine deserves all the support it can get from Europe," says Slovenian PM Robert Golob

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob has rejected criticism from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of repairs to the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

“I agree with him on many things, but not on this one”, Golob said, in an interview with DW's Richard Walker.

Golob was referring to the need for a turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline that links Russia to Germany to be returned to service in Russia as soon as possible. The turbine has been under repair in Canada, where it was blocked as a result of sanctions imposed against Russia. Ottawa has now agreed to allow its return to Germany.
The supply of gas from Russia to Germany is crucial to keep Europe strong, Golob argued.

"If gas flows resume, that’s a good sign for Europe and later for Ukraine as well”, Golob said. “Right now, Ukraine deserves all the support it can get from Europe”, Golob said.

But Europe had to stay strong in order to provide support. “By weakening Europe at its heart in Germany, at its industrial base – it doesn’t help Ukraine at all.”
