Action on the Adriatic: The Battle of Ortona

A short video on the December 1943 Battle of Ortona. The video blends footage of the fighting in Ortona with narrative and analysis. This brutal urban battle pitted troops of the 1st Canadian Division against the Fallschirmjäger of the German 1st Parachute Division. The fighting was some of the toughest faced by Canadians during the Second World War. The battle was nicknamed Little Stalingrad.
