Calls for probe into migrants deaths in Spanish enclave of Melilla
  • 2 years ago
International organizations and rights groups are calling for an independent investigation into the deaths of migrants who were trying to enter from Morocco into Spain's enclave of Melilla to get to Europe. At least 23 people, mostly from Africa, died while trying to cross the border fence. They accuse the police of beating them.
The African Union has condemned what it called the "violent and degrading treatment of African migrants." While the United Nations critized authorities on the border for using “excessive force."
