Hello everyone, Ebyte here.
When referring to servers, we often talk about 2U servers or 42U servers. Do you know what the U in the server is?
U (unit) is a unit that expresses the height dimension of a rack server. The detailed size of U is formulated by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA), 1U=4.445 cm, 2U=4.445*2=8.89 cm, and so on. The size specified by U is the width and height of the server, and the height (namely thickness) of the server is based on U.
In rack-mounted servers, common servers are: 1U server, 2U server, 4U server, and 1U or 2U server is the most commonly used server. The 1U server is the most space-saving sever with the lowest price, but the scalability is not as good as the 2U server. The server is placed in a special chest, which is what we often call "cabinet". Common cabinets are: 19-inch standard cabinet and 42U cabinet. The server is often placed in a 19-inch standard cabinet. 42 1U servers.
Guys, do you understand it now? A 42U canbinet does not mean that 42 pieces of 1U servers can be set there.
