The varroa mite is the world's most serious problem for honeybees. After previously being the only continent in the world without the virus, Australia has now detected it in the Port of Newcastle, NSW. All beehives with 10km of the outbreak must now be destroyed and a statewide lockdown on the movement of all bee products is now in place.
