'Variety' interviewed Pratt on June 22 at the premiere of 'The Terminal List,' his new Amazon Prime Video series.
Since there's been much speculation about Pratt voicing Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie because
he's not Italian, 'Variety' touched on the subject.
Pratt told the publication
that he's "updated" Mario's voice.
I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear, Chris Pratt, to 'Variety'.
It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. , Chris Pratt, to 'Variety'.
I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario
world before, Chris Pratt, to 'Variety'.
Chris Meledandri of Illumination Entertainment also recently defended Pratt's work, calling it "phenominal" in an interview with TooFab.
Well, as an Italian American myself, I understand. You know, I understand the comments. All I can tell you is the voice that he's doing for us, and Mario, is phenomenal. Yeah I can't wait for people to hear it, Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination Entertainment, via TooFab.
