On June 14, World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended the use of smallpox vaccines for monkeypox. This comes as the risk of monkeypox increases in non-endemic countries. WHO said, “While smallpox vaccines are expected to provide some protection against monkeypox, clinical data are limited.” WHO also said that mass vaccination is not required nor recommended at this time. WHO said that the decisions on use of smallpox or monkeypox vaccines should be based on a full assessment of risks & benefits on a case-by-case basis. Watch the video to know more.
