Three foreign fighters sentenced to death by separatist pro-Russia court

Three foreign fighters have been sentenced to death by a court in Russian controlled eastern Ukraine.
The two British men and a Moroccan were captured by Russian forces while fighting with Ukrainian troops. After a three-day trial, the trio were convicted of acting as mercenaries, as well as other alleged crimes.
The UK slammed the verdict, saying the Geneva Convention prohibits prosecution of prisoners of war.
The fight over the city of Sievierodonetsk is a battle -- urban warfare -- that could decide the future of practically all of eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian troops facing Russian forces there say the battle is being waged house to house -- amid ongoing Russian bombardment. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, says the outcome of this fight could determine the fate of the critical Donbas region.
As the war has largely shifted to the East, many who fled Russia's invasion around the capital, Kyiv, are now going back to try and rebuild. Ukraine says some two million people have returned home in recent weeks -- some returning to places now synonymous with atrocities committed by Russian troops. DW's Jan Philipp Scholz reports.
