Sunken Boats Resurface as Lake Mead Reaches Record Low Levels
  • 2 years ago
Lake Mead dropped to 1,049 feet above sea level on Tuesday, May 24, reaching its lowest levels ever. As the water disappears, lost and hidden items are beginning to appear, including sunken boats and human remains.

Lake Mead is the U.S.’s largest reservoir and provides water to tens of millions of people in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico. However, due to its record low levels, it’s operating in what’s known as a Tier 1 shortage, requiring water consumption cuts that, so far, have mainly affected agriculture. If the reservoir continues to drop, higher shortage tiers will need to be implemented, further affecting citizens in southwestern states.
