In his National Press Club address, Anthony Albanese has said that the Prime Minister "is distancing himself from Scott Morrison".

"Scott Morrison started his campaign saying you didn't have to like him, but at least you knew who he was. Five weeks later, he's saying he can pretend to be someone else if it will make you like him," Mr Albanese said.

"Labor is offering Australians a chance to change the country for the better. He's promising to change his personality. He's been the devil you know, he's been a bulldozer. He told us he's a car, just not an electric one, obviously, and now Scott Morrison, who's been in this government for nearly 10 years, is telling Australia that's not enough.

"He himself is now distancing himself from Scott Morrison. What a concise concession of failure, but it's been like that all along."
