Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar took charge as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Sunday.He was associated with the Election Commission as Election Commissioner from September 1, 2020 and was appointed as CEC on Thursday. He succeeds Sushil Chandra who retired on Saturday evening. The first responsibility before the new Chief Election Commissioner. President and Vice President elections will be held which are due soon. It is during his tenure that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several assembly elections will be held.

वह एक सितंबर, 2020 से निर्वाचन आयुक्त के तौर पर चुनाव आयोग से जुड़े हुए थे और बृहस्पतिवार को उन्हें सीईसी नियुक्त किया गया।उन्होंने सुशील चंद्रा का स्थान लिया है जो शनिवार शाम को सेवानिवृत्त हो गए।नए मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त के सामने सबसे पहली जिम्मेदारी राष्ट्रपति और उपराष्ट्रपति चुनाव कराने की होगी जो जल्द ही होने वाले हैं। उनके कार्यकाल में ही 2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव और कई विधानसभा चुनाव होंगे।
