One of the worst disasters in British football history took place when a fan's failed attempt to extinguish a lit cigarette set fire to rubbish below the wooden football stand.

Windy conditions meant that what was a small fire quickly engulfed the stand, claiming the lives of 56 people and injuring 265. Report by Guinnesse. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn
