Just over a week ago, 528 Rohingya refugees had forced their way through the doors and barriers of the Sungai Bakap Immigration Detention Depot, where close to 700 people were being held. Six of the refugees who broke out, which included two children, died after they were struck by fast-moving vehicles while attempting to cross an expressway to make their escape. Was overcrowding at the detention centre, as alleged by SUHAKAM, the reason for the breakout?
