My Brother's Death Gave Me The Courage To Transition | SHAKE MY BEAUTY

BARNABY, 30, is a trans man living in Arizona. He grew up in Wisconsin and struggled with questions of identity throughout his childhood. He told Truly: “I came out as bi first to my friends in high school, then when I graduated and I was ready to start telling my siblings and parents, I came out as a lesbian.” Barnaby also felt discomfort in his body growing up, “wearing feminine clothes when I was younger, it almost felt like I was being forced into drag” he said. He chose to publicly come out as a trans man in 2015 after a tragic event in his life. “I finally started to feel right with my decision to transition when I lost my brother to suicide”, he explained. The first person he told about his sexuality was his childhood friend, Daisy. They stayed in touch in college when Barnaby started to change his appearance, but have never spoken about how he felt about his identity growing up. In this video Daisy and Barnaby broach topics around his sexuality and mental health that they’ve never talked about before.
