India had a long-standing defence relationship with Russia for many years when the United States was not available to be its partner, said Derek Chollet, Counsellor to US Secretary of State, adding that Washington fully understands New Delhi's long-standing ties with Moscow.

In an exclusive interview with ANI on April 21 (local time), he also mentioned that the US is there to support India and the partnership between US and India has tremendous potential.
