In May 1940, the Germans strike against Holland, a neutral country which has a strong indigenous Nazi movement, but also liberal traditions and a courageous trade union movement.
Although at first most carry on with their lives, the country and its people are exposed to the full panoply of Nazi propaganda and terror, and eventually, of the country's 140,000 Jews, only 36,000 survive.
