One of the hardest hit areas by the recent floods in the NSW Northern Rivers has been Cabbage Tree Island, near Ballina. Nearly 200 Indigenous residents who live there have been displaced. The CEO of the local Land Council Chris Binge says most of the island's community is currently in crisis accommodation.
