The festival of Gangaur is celebrated in the North-West region of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat including Rajasthan. It is a folk festival celebrated continuously till 16. There are many religious beliefs attached to it. The special thing is that this fast is kept hidden from the husband. In the year 2022, Gangaur will start from March 18, 2022 and will run till April 4. It is believed that Lord Shiva gave a boon to Mother Parvati and Mother Parvati to all women to be fortunate. It is believed that Gangaur means Gana Shiva and Gaur Mata Parvati. There is also importance of fasting story in this fast, in which its mythological basis has been described.

गणगौर का पर्व राजस्थान समेत उत्तर प्रदेश, मध्य प्रदेश, हरियाणा और गुजरात जैसे उत्तरीय पश्चिम इलाके में मनाया जाता है। यह 16 तक लगातार मनाए जाने वाला लोक पर्व है। इसके लिए कई धार्मिक मान्यताएं जुड़ी हैं। खास बात ये है कि इस व्रत को पति से छुपाकर रखा जाता है। साल 2022 में गणगौर की शुरूआत 18 मार्च 2022 से होगी और यह 4 अप्रैल तक चलेगा। मान्यता है कि भगवान शिव ने माता पार्वती को और माता पार्वती ने संपूर्ण स्त्रियों को सौभाग्यवती होने का वरदान दिया था। माना जाता है कि गणगौर का मतलब गण शिव और गौर माता पार्वती से है। इस व्रत में व्रत कथा का भी महत्व है जिसमें इसके पौराणिक आधार का वर्णन किया गया है।
