India Again Abstains From Vote Against Russia At UN General Assembly Special Session

On March 2, India abstained on a United Nations General Assembly resolution that condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine. This is the third abstention by India in less than a week in the world body. The resolutions concern the rising crisis between Moscow & Kyiv. On March 2, the 193-member General Assembly voted. The resolution was adopted with 141 votes in favour. Five Member States voted against the resolution and there were 35 abstentions. Several Indian nationals including students have been stranded in the war-hit country. Reports of students being tortured and not allowed to board trains have emerged. PM Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin for safe evacuation of Indians from the conflict areas.
