Australia steps up rescue efforts after deadly floods force thousands to flee in eastern states

Thousands of people in Australia’s New South Wales and Queensland have been ordered to evacuate after serious flooding that has hit the eastern states since February 26, 2022. As of March 2, the death toll from the floods had risen to at least 12. Hundreds of people had to be rescued from flooded homes and thousands more were perched on rooftops waiting for help.
