On February 23, Nawab Malik, Maharashtra Minister, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Malik was arrested in connection with a money laundering case related to fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim after questioning by the probe agency. Nawab Malik will be in ED’s custody till March 3. Several NCP workers protested against the arrest and were stopped by the police as they headed towards the ED office in Mumbai. Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal told ANI, “He is being punished for attacking the Opposition.” Bhujbal said that NCP chief Sharad Pawar has received calls from Mamata Banerjee & Congress leaders who expressed their support. “I don't know about the case against him but Dawood's name has always been invoked to try to defame rivals,” NCP chief Sharad Pawar said as reported by NDTV. Malik had recently made headlines for attacking Sameer Wankhede, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director.
