Headline: UP Elections | 2018 Republic Day Riot Continues to Haunt Kasganj
  • 2 years ago
26th January is celebrated as Republic Day across the country. But for the people of Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj, the date only serves as a gory reminder of the day their city was consumed by a communal riot in 2018. Four years later, The Quint revisits the riot to try and understand how a small republic day celebration can turn into an inter-community clash.

This is a part of TheQuint's series called 'Everyday Communalism'. While traveling across the state, The Quint found that large scale riots have been replaced by low-key, low-intensity, but constant, frequent and sustained acts of violence, hate crimes and communal flare ups. Minor altercations and petty disputes are now escalated into inter-community clashes, in order to keep the pot boiling, at all times.
