WHERE do you turn for skin advice? For 22-year-old Beccy Havercroft, the answer was TikTok! The single mum from Edinburgh has struggled with acne for the past three years. By January 2021, Beccy’s skin had become so bad that she decided to post a video on TikTok, asking for advice on what to do. She told Truly: “At first it was nerve-racking because you will always get people who have a negative opinion." Overnight Beccy had over 100,000 views with hundreds of comments offering support and suggesting she try roaccutane. Since then, Beccy has continued to use TikTok to document her acne journey. She explains: “Posting my videos made it more fun; I was trying to make light of it." Despite her acne troubles Beccy uses social media to encourage and empower her followers, spreading the message that beauty isn’t defined by your skin. Today, Beccy is stepping out of her comfort zone and putting these beliefs into action by having a no-makeup photoshoot.
