In 1996, Jameela Begum's husband was allegedly killed in Kashmir Police's custody, on the suspicion of being a militant. Since then, Jameela has been on a relentless quest to seek justice for her husband's murder. Finally, after 25 years, in October 2021, a Srinagar court directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police chief to constitute a Special Investigations Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged murder.
