On January 19, Aparna Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav’s brother joined the BJP. This comes as a blow to the Samajwadi Party just weeks before the polls in Uttar Pradesh. Aparna Yadav is married to Akhilesh Yadav’s brother Pratik Yadav. BJP leaders while welcoming Aparna Yadav to the party, referred to her as Mulayam Singh's bahu (daughter-in-law). Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya welcomed her to the party. Maurya said Akhilesh Yadav has been unsuccessful in his family as well as politics.
