Why Have Voting Dates In Punjab Been Postponed To February 20

On January 17, the Election Commission of India announced that polls in Punjab will be held on February 20 instead of the date announced earlier. The date has been changed from February 14 to February 20 after requests were made to the Election Commission by political parties to consider the Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations. Charanjit Channi, Punjab Chief Minister thanked the Election Commission for accepting his request to defer the polls. Channi had written a letter to the Election Commission requesting to defer the assembly polls due to the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. Counting of votes for the 117 seats in Punjab will take place on March 10. Watch the video to know more.
