Researchers and indigenous rangers have discovered why the Gulf of Carpentaria is such a dugong hotspot by carrying out a major survey of its seagrass beds.

They've found the seagrass meadows along the Limmen area of the NT coastline are much more widespread and diverse than they'd thought. They are hoping governments respond to the research by providing more protection for the area, and by doing more to tackle climate change threatening to habitat.
