कोरोना वायरस के नए वैरिएंट ओमिक्रॉन से पूरी दुनिया में एक बार फिर से हाहाकार मच गया है. ओमिक्रॉन को लेकर लगातार नई-नई स्टडीज सामने आ रही हैं और वैज्ञानिक भी डेटा के आधार पर तमाम संभावनाओं और आशंकाओं के बारे में बात कर रहे हैं. कुछ वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि नए वैरिएंट के मामले भले ही बहुत तेजी से बढ़ रहे हैं, लेकिन अस्पतालों में कोविड मरीजों के गंभीर मामले बढ़ते नहीं दिख रहे हैं. यह डेटा महामारी के कम चिंताजनक चरण में पहुंचने का संकेत है. बता दें कि भारत में ओमिक्रॉन वैरिएंट के मामले बढ़कर 2,000 के पार पहुंच चुके हैं. ओमिक्रॉन की रफ्तार को देखते हुए कई राज्यों में पाबंदियां भी लगाई जा चुकी हैं. लेकिन लोगों के जेहन में अभी भी एक सवाल है कि पहली डिफेंस लाइन से आगे निकल जाने के बाद ओमिक्रॉन का प्रदर्शन कैसा होगा. दरअसल कोरोना के पिछले वैरिएंट्स के मुकाबले ओमिक्रॉन के कम गंभीर या घातक होने के कई कारक हैं. इसमें वायरस की फेफड़ों को संक्रमित करने की क्षमता भी शामिल है. आमतौर पर कोविड इंफेक्शन नाक से शुरू होता है और नीचे गले में फैलता है. एक हल्का इंफेक्शन 'अपर रेस्पिरेटरी ट्रैक्ट' से आगे नहीं पहुंच पाता है. वायरस के फेफड़ों में पहुंचने के बाद ही गंभीर लक्षण दिखाई देते हैं.
