2021 kicked off with a bang when hundreds of Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, refusing to accept the presidential election results that saw Joe Biden victorious. Donald Trump had refused to concede defeat, alleging that the vote had been rigged and the election “stolen”.
Kabul fell back into the hands of the Taliban on August 15 after the insurgents launched a blitz that saw them wrest control of the country within weeks. President Ashraf Ghani fled the country and US and allied forces exited the war-torn country by August 31.
