Mehndi or henna tattoos are an ancient Indian ritual associated with traditional weddings, but now widely used to adorn the hands and legs of women of all ages. The material that is applied comes from the Mehndi shrub known in Latin as Lawsonia inermis.Young Indian women practice the ancient art of mendhi, applying the henna to each others feet and hands.
