আগামী ২৬ ডিসেম্বর চারঘাট উপজেলার ৬টি ইউনিয়নে ইউপি নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। এ নির্বাচনকে ঘিরে সরকার দলীয় আওয়ামীলীগসহ অন্যান্য দল অংশ গ্রহন করলেও বিএনপি অংশ গ্রহন থেকে বিরত রয়েছে। তবে দলীয় ভাবে মনোনীত না হলেও স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবে ভোট যুদ্ধে অংশ গ্রহন করছে বিএনপি সমর্থক হিসেবে প্রার্থীরা। নির্বাচন অফিস সুত্রে জানা গেছে, আগামী ২৬ ডিসেম্বর নির্বাচনকে কেন্দ্রে করে চেয়ারম্যান পদে ২৩ জন, সাধারন সদস্য পদে ২২৩ জন এবং সংরক্ষিত নারী সদস্য পদে ৭৮ জন প্রার্থী অংশগ্রহণ করবেন। ৬ টি ইউনিয়ন ভোটার সংখ্যা ১ লাখ ৪০ হাজার ৬৬ জন। এর মধ্যে পুরষ ভোটার ৭০ হাজার ৫০৪ জন এবং নারী ভোটার ৬৯ হাজার ৫৬২ জন।
