On December 21, the central government told the states that Omicron is three times as infectious as Delta. The union health ministry told the states to activate war rooms to contain Omicron. The ministry pointed out a series of prevention and containment measures that included extensive testing, regulation of gatherings and night curfew. States have also been asked to accelerate and ensure 100 per cent vaccination coverage. Omicron variant cases in India have reached 213.
