Omicron Scare: Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Quebec Bring Back Stricter Covid-19 Restrictions As Cases Surge

Omicron is spreading at an alarming rate across the world. Many countries have decided to bring back the Covid-19 restrictions as cases surge. On December 20, the Irish Department of Health reported 5,124 new confirmed Covid-19 cases. The authorities said that about 52 per cent of these cases were due to the Omicron variant. On December 18, Netherlands announced a Christmas lockdown. The Omicron variant was detected in South Africa. Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of Netherlands said that all non-essential shops, entertainment & cultural venues must remain shut until January 14. Schools will remain closed until at least January 9. Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced that the organisation will be deferring its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland due to the rising cases. Quebec has also imposed restrictions.
