Thyroid cancer occurs in the cells of the thyroid. This is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the bottom of your neck. Hormones released by the thyroid control heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight. There are many types of thyroid cancer. Some of these grow slowly while some grow very fast. The type of thyroid cancer depends on the cells from which the cancer grows. Thyroid cancers are of papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic types. Most of these people are victims of papillary thyroid cancer.
