Afghan families go back to making carpets as economy unravels

Afghan rugs -- from intricately woven silk Persians, to the simpler woolen tribal kilims -- are sought after around the world. But demand has been hit after the exodus of expatriates working for international organizations.

The Taliban took over control of the country in August 2021 and the economy tanked – leaving many Afghans jobless.

Carpet traders in Herat and Kabul say now more people have approached them for jobs over the last few months.
