Ministers will consider imposing a chewing gum tax to stop people throwing it away on the street.

Gum is highly damaging to the environment and costs councils nearly 50 million pounds to clear-up every year.

Chancellor Philip Hammond is set to launch a public consultation tomorrow to show officials how the tax system can be used to help the environment.
