Curfew imposed in Amravati as fresh violence erupts

As violence erupted in Amravati during the Saturday bandh, police imposed a four-day curfew and blocked the internet in sensitive areas of the city. Saturday’s bandh call was in response to Friday’s protest rallies by Muslim organizations to condemn the recent violence in Tripura. That rally witnessed stone-pelting in which some shops were damaged. Internet services in the city will remain suspended for three days to prevent the spread of rumors that fuel violence.
