Die Fernrakete - Vom Werdegang einer neuen Waffe 1932-40 [Early Rocket Develoment in Germany] (1941)
In 1938, it was decided to build a new rocket, the A5, with the same engine.
This was intended from the outset as a test model for the A4. A completely new control unit was developed.
The diameter increased to 700 mm and the length to 5,825 mm.
the German government erected a development and test centre at Peenemünde on the coast of the Baltic Sea. There they developed, among other devices, the V-2 (originally designated the A-4) ballistic missile.
Overall, this test missile was a great success. With several starts heights of up to 11,000 m were reached. Tests were also carried out in the wind tunnel, simulated launch tests from a He 111 and a parachute retrieval system.
