Gourav Vallabh is a Professor of Finance & National Spokesperson (Congress).
Prof. Vallabh discusses the rapid deterioration of the Indian economy due to hasty and ill-equipt decisions taken by the current ruling government and its impact on the well-being of Indian citizens. He points out the increasing prices, falling consumer demand, and rising unemployment. He mainly attributes the continual deterioration of the economy to demonetization, ill-implementation of GST, and a 4-hour notice of lockdown. Prof. Vallabh offers five solutions to revive the economy - reviving economic demand that would require improving consumer confidence through money transfers, strengthening NREGA, providing tax reliefs to the middle class. He moreover advocates legalizing MSP as a constitutional right, rationalizing GST, and controlling the prices of gas, diesel, and petrol, vital for a common person’s day-to-day life.
‘Reimagining India’ hopes to start a conversation to explore the contours of a society that is more just, equal and aligned to the Constitutional values of liberty and fraternity. Over the next two months, beginning from Oct 2, 2021 , 50 lectures on relevant themes by leading public intellectuals and political leaders will provide an alternate vision for the country.
