Destiny of Indian Muslims – Dr. Syeda Hameed
  • 2 years ago
Destiny of Indian Muslims in English & Hindi language is part of the Reimagining India Video Lecture Series.

Dr. Syeda Hameed is a Writer and Social Activist & former member of the Planning Commission

Syeda Hameed addresses the deteriorating conditions of Indian minorities, especially Muslims, in recent years. She highlights the ‘Sachar Committee Report (SCR)’ recommendations for minorities and their impact over the years. SCR has highlighted several gaps recognized in the development of minorities in India, such as the education deficit faced by the Muslim community, the difference in accessibility and quality of healthcare to minorities, and the quality of education in private and public schools. Ms. Hameed advocates eliminating the system of private and public differentiation in the education and healthcare sectors. She discusses the significance of approaching ‘development planning’ of various sectors with a feminist lens while reiterating the importance of a new paradigm shift involving civil society’s active participation in policymaking to reimagining India.

‘Reimagining India’ hopes to start a conversation to explore the contours of a society that is more just, equal and aligned to the Constitutional values of liberty and fraternity. Over the next two months, beginning from Oct 2, 2021 , 50 lectures on relevant themes by leading public intellectuals and political leaders will provide an alternate vision for the country.
