Gitana Team 2021 / 24 hours inside the Fastnet, with the men of the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild

One week ago, the fleet competing in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2021 set sail on the 49th edition of this grand and prestigious Anglo-Saxon race, which starts out from Cowes every two years. Criss-crossing the waters of the Solent at 11:00 UTC on Sunday 8 August, over 330 boats await the starting canons to be fired from the Royal Yacht Squadron. At that moment in time, the competitors are negotiating over 25 knots of headwind. Ten minutes later, the multihulls, which include the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild and the Ultimes, are the first to make good their escape towards the Needles. Leading the sprint, Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier’s men sail a faultless first section, which logically enables them to be first to round the legendary Fastnet lighthouse off southern Ireland the following morning. That evening, after 1 day 9 hours 15 minutes and 54 seconds, they secure line honours at the finish, which is now decided in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. Thanks to Yann Riou’s on-board camera, you can relive their second consecutive win in one of the most emblematic races.
