TOM WALKER PLAYS INAUGURAL LUMO SERVICE INTO SCOTLAND WITH SPECIAL GIG ON TRAIN

Harvey Price joins inaugural journey as Lumo’s Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador
Some 60% of all single fares will be available for £30 or less
First month ticket sales “above expectations” – services begin Monday 25th October
Scottish singer songwriter Tom Walker will play a unique gig on the first ever Lumo train service today [21 October] as it travels to Edinburgh from London.
The Brit Award winner will perform live to a group of volunteers from Lumo’s new charity partner, The People’s Kitchen, which provides support to homeless and vulnerable people in Newcastle. Tom will also answer questions put to him via social media and from fans in the carriage.
The inaugural Lumo train service will arrive at Edinburgh Waverley this afternoon promising to offer cheaper and greener travel between Edinburgh and London for over one million passengers a year. Despite selling tickets for just 44 days, sales are already well above expectations.
Tom Walker said: “Scotland may not be where I live anymore but it is my home. Anything that makes travelling between Edinburgh and London more affordable and better for the environment is good news. I’ve never heard of anyone performing a gig on a train before – when I was asked to do it, I thought it was a great idea. The set is not without its challenges, but Lumo have been fantastic in helping us make it happen.
“The People’s Kitchen is a great cause. I’m really honoured to be able to play to volunteers from the charity and I hope it helps to raise awareness of the great work they do.”
Helen Wylde, Managing Director for Lumo, said: “Tom has been an absolute star in supporting our inaugural service. Lumo is all about being as inclusive as possible and there are so many deserving people we wanted to thank. Being able to host a Tom Walker gig on a high-speed train is definitely a new way to do it!”
Also travelling is Lumo’s newly recruited Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador, Harvey Price, who will be helping Lumo to address the challenges people with disabilities encounter during rail travel.
Lumo will provide low-carbon, affordable long-distance travel for over 1 million passengers per year. Some 60% of all single fares will be available at a cost of £30 or less2.
Lumo intends to publish its carbon emissions data on a regular basis to feed its carbon calculator, which allows passengers to calculate the carbon impact of their Lumo journey and compare it with other ways to travel.
