"Tambangan" crossing boat on the Brantas river

The people of Blitar and Tulungagung, especially those around the Brantas River, are certainly familiar with mining boat crossing transportation. Yes, it is called a mining boat because this boat uses ropes from the river bank to the other side of the river.
It is not known exactly when this traditional means of transportation began to be used. But many believe that mining boats have been widely used since the era of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom and the Majapahit Kingdom.

Some historical records say, the Brantas River was the main transportation route during the ancient kingdoms in East Java. Previously, apart from being faster, the land route was still a wilderness so it was very dangerous to pass. Kingdoms that use the Brantas River as the main transportation route include the Ancient Mataram Kingdom and the Majapahit Kingdom.

In general, the crossing boat called a mine is a small boat which is usually called a getek. The capacity of this getek boat can only carry people or motorbikes
