New U.S. China Trade Deal Lacks Specifics

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai waited 8 months to produce a new trade plan policy review with China. After revealing the plan on Monday, Tai faced backlash as industry experts said the program lacked specifics on negotiations and the timing of a new deal. Tai, however, plans to host trade talks with China, covering items like tariffs on Chinese exports. Mary Lovely, a trade economist with Syracuse University, said, “She’s going to re-engage with China, and that’s a good thing, but her whole plan seems to be, ‘I’m going to have a conversation.’” Additionally, Tai is likely to leave the aforementioned Trump-era tariffs in place for the time being.
