Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will be a prequel to the Fallout series and is scheduled for release on November 14, 2018.

Fallout 76 is a narrative prequel to earlier Fallout games, set in the year 2102 in an alternate timeline, 25 years after nuclear war devastated the Earth. Prior to this war, nuclear proliferation in the 20th and 21st centuries led to the United States government creating a number of fallout shelters, also known as "vaults", for long-term survival. Vault 76, the shelter from which the player's character originates from, was built in West Virginia and opened by the government on America's tricentennial in 2076. Vault 76 had been mentioned in previous Fallout games as an experimental control to test against secret experiments performed at other Vaults.
