Bougainville Class Avisos

The Bougainville Class Avisos were built to operate in remote locations of the French Empire. As such endurance and accommodation tailored for a tropical climate were essential. Facilities for an Admiral and his staff had also to be integrated into the design. Fully loaded they weighed 2,600 tons. Armament would consist of 3 single 5.5" guns, 4 single 37mm AA guns and 8 machine guns in twin mounts. 50 mines could also be carried if necessary. A lightweight seaplane could also be accommodated. This video covers the Bougainville, Amiral Charner and Dumont d'Urville. If there is enough interest further videos covering the other ships of this class will be made.
