Bougainville Class Avisos

The Bougainville Class Avisos were built to operate in remote locations of the French Empire. As such endurance and accommodation tailored for a tropical climate were essential. Facilities for an Admiral and his staff had also to be integrated into the design. Fully loaded they weighed 2,600 tons. Armament would consist of 3 single 5.5" guns, 4 single 37mm AA guns and 8 machine guns in twin mounts. 50 mines could also be carried if necessary. A lightweight seaplane could also be accommodated.
