The Taliban had declared their "complete victory" in Panjshir by raising their flag at the provincial Governor's office on Monday. However, NRF leader Ahmad Massoud had dismissed the Taliban's claim of having conquered the region, saying he would fight till his "last drop of blood".

The Taliban declared their conquest of Panjshir after the resistance forces lost two prominent leaders in battle — Fahim Dashty, the NRF's spokesperson, and General Sahib Abdul Wadood Zhor, the nephew of NRF chief Ahmad Massoud.
