दूसरी पारी में केएल राहुल और रोहित शर्मा ने भारत को अच्छी शुरुआत दिलाई और पहले विकेट के लिए 83 रन की शानदार साझेदारी की, लेकिन इस पार्टनरशिप को एंडरसन ने तोड़ दिया। एंडरसन ने राहुल को 46 रन पर कैच करवा दिया। पहली पारी में भारतीय टीम इंग्लैंड के गेंदबाजों के सामने ज्यादा बड़ा स्कोर नहीं कर पाई थी और पूरी टीम सिर्फ 191 रन पर आउट हो गई थी। वहीं पहली पारी में इंग्लैंड की टीम का स्कोर भी ज्यादा बड़ा तो नहीं कहा जा सकता है और ये टीम 290 पर आल-आउट हुई और भारतीय टीम पर 99 रन की अहम बढ़त बना ली थी।
