On the Caribbean island of Desecheo, birds used to be abundant, but invasive species and military activity wiped out most of the populations. Scientists are trying to boost the populations of 3 species through decoys, mirrors, and loudspeakers: the bridled tern, brown noddy, and the Audubon’s shearwater. Early results of the trial are promising.
