G-7 Meets On Afghanistan

The G-7 countries — the U.K., the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan — will attempt to formulate the next steps on Afghanistan as tens of thousands of Afghans and foreign nationals try to get out of the country. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is hosting a virtual emergency meeting of G-7 leaders today to address the chaotic situation in Afghanistan and what their next moves will be. The meeting comes against the backdrop of a turbulent U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan that has seen Taliban forces take control of the country in roughly 10 days as the Afghan military and government capitulated. The U.S. government says it has evacuated or facilitated the evacuation of approximately 48,000 people out of Afghanistan since Aug. 14
